Wool Craft on Paper

Paromita Pramanick

Here is a collection of wool crafts for the growing children from the age of 4 to 10 years, this includes wrapping, twisting, sticking in this section. Generally, there are a lot of other activities that are normally done by our mothers and grandmothers at home like knitting woollen sweaters, woollen caps, woollen table cloth and much more for the household uses.

Apart from these, even the children have some fun and learning activities with wool. There are many craft ideas for children to work upon, as they can’t resist the bright colours which make them cheerful while they do the activity.
There are so many things you can do with extra yarn, whether it is a big or a small activity, dozens of fun ideas that would keep you busy for hours. This activity will help to grasp the knowledge of propensity among the children.

Knots Collage
Knotting is basically a traditional Chinese craft, however it has been followed in India as well since ages. We normally use the knots to fasten clothes, but wool is also used for decorative purposes.

It is an easy pattern and I recommend this activity for both children and adults, as this art would probably help the adults to overcome with their tiredness and motivate them for some art work which would relieve them from worries and anxiety. Even the people who have no idea about any craft or woollen knitting could do this activity with the leftover yarn as well.

The whole idea is just to wrap the leftover yarn and stick them into the flower patterns on the paper. It is a very exciting way to create the modern artistic patterns with ease. However, parental guidance would be suggestible for the beginners or the preschoolers.
Materials Required:
  1. A4 sheet paper/an art paper of any color (you can also take a stiff paper from an old cardboard box for that matter)
  2. Wool fibre or yarn (colour of your own choice)
  3. Glue
  4. Pencil
  5. Scissor
  6. Decorative cello tapes for the border (or you can just use the yarn in a straight line form and stick them into the borders)
Procedure:
  1. Draw patterns of flowers with pencil on the paper. (you can also draw  some easy designs of your choice).
  2. Apply glue to the patterns. One at a time, suppose if you apply glue on the first flower, then complete wrapping the wool on that particular flower before you move on to the next flower.
  3. Cut the wool fibres finger-sized and stick them on the glue on all the flowers and also you can make leaves beside them and other patterns for that matter and leave it to dry.
  4. Frame the borders of your woolen artwork with shiny cello tapes or yarn itself.
Wool or yarn crafts are a brilliant way to enrich your child in their developmental process. Wool is a colourful and wonderful material that your kid will be able to use to create many fun crafts even by themselves. We usually encourage the preschoolers and other children in the schools to use their imagination and creative ideas, this is important because it will help and give them to choose a hobby that they can rely upon in their future too.

Just think how beautiful these would look when framed and hang on the walls of your child’s bedroom. They would just grab the attention of any guests or visitors and your child will be praised for his creative outcome. You can get very colourful artwork with these flowers and come up with lots of cute designs and eye- catching combinations.
