Pulses Artwork

Paromita Pramanick
On this Independence Day, I am sharing an activity made out of Pulses which truly resembles the food that our motherland grows, the beauty that our nature manifests and the art, culture and heritage our country beholds. I'm bringing in together the combination of all these three things through my artwork. Today's artwork is done with the use of different varieties of pulses that we consume in our day to day life and honestly oblige to our motherland for growing food for us.

I've modelled a Flying Peacock for this Pulses Artwork, as Peacock is the National Bird of our country, it also resembles the plight of plumage and elegance, even though the Peacock couldn't fly very high it has never lost its self-confidence and also never failed to impress everyone through its beauty. Our country India is one such beautiful country which never fails to impress. Finally how the food and art connect together in the country giving it a perfect description of our heritage and culture.

This Pulses Artwork is presented in a very simple way for the growing children who would love to do this activity. For this Pulses activity, I've used different kinds of pulses and grains such as seeds, rice, other colourful lentils. The activity requires a very few realistic materials which need to be pasted on the paper and is basically an easy and decorative artwork. Children would learn the names of different pulses while doing this artwork. They would also learn to sort out the colours and sizes of pulses.

I've shared another such activity with pulses in one of my previous post where I also shared some tips for the Pulses Pasting Activity that will prevent the pulses from getting moistened and you can preserve your artwork for many days. You can also find the complete Pulses Artwork video on my You tube channel. For the Pulses Pasting Activity I had modelled a Duckling and used only three types of pulses for that activity. However, for today's artwork, I will be using more of the varieties of pulses such as split pigeon peas (Toor Dal), Red Lentils (Masoor Dal), Petite Green Lentils (Moong Dal), rice, Bengal gram, Urad Dal, Dry peas. This activity is very easy and I've have shared the step by step procedure with pictures below.

Tips: Dry the pulses under the hot sun before pasting them on paper to avoid moistening and growth of any tiny worms.

Materials Required:
  1. Paper or Cardboard sheet
  2. Pulses
  3. Pencil
  4. Glue
  5. Paints
  6. Paintbrush
  7. Sketch Pens

Procedure:
  1. Draw the desired figure on a sheet of paper.
  2. Paint the portions where you do not want to add the pulses and draw the outlines with a sketch pen.
  3. Apply glue on a little portion, and put pulses over it.
  4. Leave it to dry for 2 minutes or so, then drop the extra pulses out of the paper.
  5. Continue sticking the pulses in portions.
And the resultant is similar to the image below. Find the full Pulses Artwork Video tutorial on my Youtube channel (Also the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q7y0bRzqB8&t=9s ). And wish you all a Happy 72nd Independence Day!!
