The Ant and the Dove
(The Ant and the Dove’ is a short inspirational story from the collection of Aesop’s Fables, with an important message to Life. Aesop’s Fables are short stories for children with a moral at the end of the story).

This is a story about an incident on a sunny day, the day was very hot as it was the summer month. There lived an ant in the grasses near the woods. The ant felt very thirsty and was searching for some water. After walking about for some time, the ant came to a spring near a river. The ant went to the bank of the river to drink water. To reach the water of the spring, the ant had to climb up a blade of grass. Then to drink the water, she climbed up on a small rock. While drinking the water from the stream, the poor Ant lost its balance, she slipped and fell into the river. She cried loudly “Ah! Help me! Help me!” and screamed for help. The river current seemed to be high on that day and the force of the stream was too strong sweeping the ant away. The ant got too close and feared that it might be her last breath and she was about to drown.

There was Dove sitting on a branch of a tree watching from nearby the river, thankfully he saw the ant drowning in the stream. She could have drowned in if the kind Dove had not seen her. The dove understood the ant was struggling for life in the water. He felt very sad seeing the little ant in trouble and said, “Don’t worry my friend! I will save you!”. The dove quickly plucked a leaf from that tree and dropped it into the river, right next to the ant. The leaf fell near the ant so that she could climb upon the leaf. The ant moved towards the leaf and climbed up onto it. The leaf floated towards the bank of the river, the dove then carefully pulled the leaf out of the stream to the shore. The ant reached the shore safely and then it slowly drifted to the dry ground. The ant jumped out and she survived. The ant’s life was saved by the kind dove. The ant looked up to the tree and thanked the dove for saving her life by saying, “Thank you, dove! I will always remember what you did for me”.

Just after few days, a fierce hunter (a bird catcher) from nearby came into the woods. The hunter saw the beautiful dove on a tree, he took his bow and arrow, and was about to shoot at the dove. The ant was passing through the tree noticed the bad hunter with his bow aiming the arrow at her saviour and she guessed what the hunter was about to do. The hunter was targeting at the dove sitting on the branch of a tree. The dove was resting and he had no idea about the bird catcher. The Ant wanted to save the dove’s life, the little Ant used his brains to think of some plan to rescue the dove. At the very last moment the ant had an idea, so before the hunter could release his arrow, the little Ant got over his leg and quickly bit him on the foot. The hunter missed his aim, dropped his bow and shouted in pain, “Ouch!”. Hearing the loud yell of the hunter, the dove was alarmed and realised about the danger he was about to face. The dove quickly escaped flying off to a safer place and waved a ‘thank you’ to the ant for saving his life.

In this way, both the Ant and the Dove saved each other's life when either of them was in danger.

Moral: When you do Good to others, Goodness come back to you.
